It seems that more has been written about this Budget than any other before it. That may be an illusion. But if it is the case, why?
We are unlikely to see any rabbits or hats (indeed they might even be taxed at some point in the future!)
Instead what we are apparently going to see is a targeted series of measures, amongst which are likely to be the £2bn aid package to those under-25s who find themselves on the dole and a £100bn home building package.
It is questionable whether we should start ‘ageing’ unemployment in this way. Unemployment is unemployment. It does not matter if you 16 or 60. If we are going to take action against unemployment it must be across the board.
Instead of new homes being built why don't we start renovating those properties which stand derelict or decaying? It is likely that this would cost the struggling British taxpayer less than the £100bn.
If so much has been written about this Budget, it is because the Budget itself will be little more than a maths lesson.
Come Thursday morning, the average Briton will not be richer or happier.
