Sorry only means something if behaviour changes. It seems unlikely that we are going to see a long-term change in behaviour from Westminster. To be sure we are seeing a lot of dust and dirt kicked up in the immediate aftermath of the car skidding off the road, but the car that is not fit for purpose, will just be pushed back onto the road and driven onwards.
How can we tell this? By the fact that all MPs are talking about is an independent auditing body and the Kelly review. Both of these just place more checks and balances on a flawed system. The problem is not the regulation, or lack of it, but the root.
For this reason any apology uttered by a politican is worthless until it is accompanied by decisive action.
